Abbasi criticizes the proposed changes to the constitution

Prominent politician Shahid Khaqan Abbasi is vehemently against the proposed 26th Constitutional Amendment, arguing that weakening the independence of the judiciary is not a way to address past wrongdoings.

Leader of the Awam Pakistan Party Abbasi expressed doubts about the government’s authority and expressed worries about its actions in a statement over the proposed amendments.

He forewarned that the judiciary’s autonomy would be significantly impacted by the proposed modification.

According to Abbasi, “the proposed law allowing the transfer of High Court judges will be used to put them under pressure,” which would erode the defense of citizens’ fundamental rights.

Additionally, he expressed disapproval of the Federal Constitutional Court’s establishment, arguing that it would lessen the authority of Supreme Court justices.
